UPDATED – April 2020 Goddess Durga, the Shakti avatar, is the primitive source of all the powers. She is one of the most revered deities in Hinduism and devotees believe that she had originated to kill the demon Mahishasura. It is also believed that Maa Durga is the protector of the good and harmony in the world. Mahishasura Mardini Stotram is the hymn composed for Maa Durga who took the Chandi form to defeat the demon Mahishasura. The stotra is said to have been composed by Adi Sankaracharya and Ramakrishna Kavi. The hymn was narrated in the Chandi path in Durga Sapatashati.

It is a stotram that seeks blessings of Maa Durga and praises her qualities and power. Mahishasura Mardini Stotram has much importance during the Navratri festival as devotees worship Mother Durga in her nine forms
